How to bake the perfect Camembert

A baked Camembert is one of the easiest ways to bring people together. Whether served as a festive starter, part of a cheeseboard or alongside drinks, it‘s a dish made for sharing. Pair it with crusty bread, crackers, crudités, cornichons or boiled new potatoes. A ceramic Camembert baker takes the cheese straight from oven to table, helping it stay warm and deliciously gooey while everyone gathers round to dip and share.

Prepare the cheese

Preheat the oven to 200°C/180°C fan/gas 6. Using the tip of a sharp knife, score a cross through the rind, taking care not to cut too deeply into the cheese. Place the Camembert into a ceramic baker or small ovenproof dish.

Add your favourite flavours

Keep it simple or add a few festive flavours. Tuck slivers of garlic and sprigs of fresh rosemary or thyme into the cuts, or add a splash of white wine or kirsch before replacing the lid. Bake for around 25 minutes, until the centre is soft and melting.

Prepare everything for serving

While the Camembert bakes, prepare the accompaniments. Arrange warm crusty bread, crackers and crudités on a serving board so everything is ready when the cheese comes out of the oven.

Serve straight away

Carefully remove the baker from the oven and lift back the scored rind to reveal the melted cheese beneath. Remove any herbs if you wish, then serve immediately while it's still warm and perfectly gooey.
