Slow cooker hot chocolate

Rich, smooth and deeply indulgent, this slow cooker hot chocolate is perfect for cold evenings and winter gatherings.

Simply add the ingredients and let the slow cooker do the work while the flavours gently develop. Top with your favourites, whether it's mini marshmallows, squirty cream or a drizzle of caramel syrup for some extra sweetness.

What you'll need...

  • 100g dark chocolate, finely chopped
  • 100g milk chocolate, finely chopped
  • 20g cocoa powder
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon (optional)
  • 1 tbsp corn flour (2 tbsp if you like very thick hot chocolate)
  • 2 tbsp icing sugar
  • 1 litre whole milk
  • 250ml single cream
  • 2 tsp vanilla bean paste or extract

To serve

  • Melted chocolate (milk or dark)
  • Mini marshmallows

Method

  1. Combine the chopped chocolate with the cinnamon, cornflour and icing sugar ensuring it is mixed thoroughly. Place this mix in the bottom of the slow cooker.

  2. Add the milk, cream and vanilla to the chocolate mix and stir to combine. Cover and cook on high for 2 hours until smooth and fully melted, stirring two to three times throughout. 

  3. Ladle into mugs and top with marshmallows and drizzle with melted chocolate before serving.
